Jamieson rattles Pakistan’s top order in opening session of Day one
Christchurch: Kyle Jamieson’s fiery spell in the latter part of the opening session has caused yet another batting collapse for Pakistan.
The 26-year-old strikes thrice in the span of his three overs to dismiss Abid Ali, Haris Sohail and inform Fawad Alam.
The visitors are struggling at 88/4 with Azhar Ali battling hard on 53*, joined by skipper Mohammad Rizwan, who has only faced one ball.
Earlier, Blackcaps’ captain Kane Williamson opted to bowl first on bowlers friendly conditions and the decision was fruitful as experienced campaigner Tim Southee got rid of opener Shan Masood (0) on a score of 4 in the third over.
Abid was joined by former captain Azhar who batted positively and scored runs at a fast pace. Both added a 62-run stand for the second wicket until Jamieson produced a blinder to dismiss Abid, who departed after scoring 25.
In his following over, he removed Haris (1), who was lazy while committing to play and the ball went to Tom Latham at Gully.
Last match centurion Fawad Alam (2) couldn’t do much as he was dismissed by a peach of a delivery by the tall pacer.
Meanwhile, Azhar completed his 32nd fifty of his Test career with a classy straight drive.
Note, Daryl Mitchell and Matt Henry come into the New Zealand side in place of Mitchell Santner and Neil Wagner while Zafar Gohar makes his Test debut for Pakistan. as he has replaced leg-spinner Yasir Shah.
