Jared Goff injury update: Rams QB’s gnarly thumb injury could keep him out Week 17
Los Angeles may be without one of their Hollywood stars come next Sunday.
The Rams are making their playoff push and they may have to win a game without Jared Goff, per reports, who is battling through a pretty gruesome thumb injury sustained on Sunday vs. the Seahawks.
(Warning: Thumbs are not supposed to look like this.)
Goff would pop the thumb back in place and finish out the game, going 24 for 43 for 234 yards and an interception in the 20-9 loss to the Seahawks.
The Rams, who have been winning despite Goff’s production this year, will have a steep hill to climb should Goff not be good to go come Week 17. John Wolford is second on the Rams depth chart, who has never thrown a pass in the NFL.
Here’s the latest of Goff’s injury:
Jared Goff injury update
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams will know more within the next few days when it comes to Goff’s injury, but the early prognosis doesn’t seem great for his chances to play Week 17.
Schefter reports that the Rams fear that Goff’s thumb is broken, after initially having it dislocated on the field. NFL Network’s Michael Silver and Ian Rapoport also report that Goff could be headed for surgery to repair the thumb, effectively ending his season.
Jared Goff’s thumb was dislocated on the field, the team fears it is broken, and he will have more testing in LA on Monday – and Rams still don’t know if he can play next week vs. Arizona. They expect to know more in 48-72 hours. https://t.co/5aTf5QZkTK

More on Goff from @RapSheet and me: He will wait to see how the thumb is after the swelling goes down, but it is unlikely he’ll play next Sunday vs. Arizona. Could well be a season-ending injury. Will need surgery to repair. He reset the thumb himself on the field. Tough guy. https://t.co/4pjAZxpp5p

The Rams, who lost out on an opportunity to win the NFC West, are still looking for a playoff berth. They still control their own destiny, with a matchup vs. the NFC West rival Cardinals next Sunday.
With 39 turnovers, Goff has turned it over more times than any other quarterback since the start of 2019.
Backing up Goff is quarterback John Wolford, who has never thrown a pass in an NFL game. Wolford spent time as the starter of the Arizona Hotshots in the AAF before the league was suspended.
